  • BIG LGBTQ+ HISTORY MONTH QUIZ

    ANARC, CARDIFF UNIVERSITY

A quiz hosted on campus at Cardiff University by the Ancient History, Archaeology and Conservation society to highlight LGBTQ+ histories. The quiz aimed to increase awareness amongst students - both queer and allies - with feedback received that teams and their members all learnt something new about queer history.

  • FRESHERS BLOOD DRIVE

    SHEFFIELD SU LGBTQ+ SOCIETY

LGBTQ+ people are significantly less likely to be blood donors. This project aimed to primarily raise awareness amongst new LGBTQ+ students and the University of Sheffield on the importance of blood donation, but also ended up involving recent alumni and several non-LGBTQ+ people. The initiative provided an opportunity for stigmas and apprehensions to be squashes and to promote group solidarity amongst donors with 32 new donors registered, 26 for the first time, impacting upon the equivalent of 96 adults or 384 babies.

  • THE SAFE SPACE CARD

    UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX STUDENTS’ UNION

This initiative focused on the simple action of a postcard given to LGBTQ+ students, staff and their allies as an easy way to tackle homophobia and transphobia on campus, whilst also showing support for the LGBTQ+ community. Two versions produced for LGBTQ+ and trans+ people. The card featured the university’s zero-tolerance statement on LGBTQ+ rights and a list of important resources. Resistance from some students made raising concerns to the university more direct with regards to tackling hate incidents and creating demands for change on campus.
