INTERNATIONAL LGBTQIA+ STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCE RESEARCH

London School of Economics

Finalists Khushi and Sanisha have been shortlisted for a qualitative research project they led entitled ‘How do international LGBTQIA+ students experience the LSE environment? after noticing a lack of support and visibility at the London School of Economics and receiving feedback from students who felt isolated and discriminated against, especially those already at a socially disadvantaged intersection. 

QUEER AWARENESS PROJECT

Durham University
This shortlisted project aims to support LGBTQ+ communities both within Van Mildert College at Durham University and in the wider community, ensuring school pupils get better representation of Queer people to enhance key aspects of life not covered in the national curriculum. The project has supported a local school and sixth form college with their Pride groups, prepared and delivered school assemblies during LGBTQ+ history month and co-ordinated Van Mildert’s first ever Pride formal.

‘PLAYING IT SAFE’

Sexpression: UK

This Sexpression: UK sexual health campaign has been shortlisted for its emphasis on inclusive sex education that covered important topics such as consent, healthy relationships, pleasure, online safety, mental health and diversity. The campaign sought to dismantle stigmas, foster understanding, and empower marginalised communities while prioritising sexual health and wellbeing and recognising the importance of intersectionality by amplifying voices often overlooked.

LGBTQ+ SPEED DATING

University of Essex LGBTQ+ Society

The LGBTQ+ Society at the University of Essex spotted an opportunity to adapt existing speed dating events on campus so that members of the LGBTQ+ community could feel comfortable taking part in them. A new format was launched, and well received on campus in a new venue which allowed participants to speak more freely, share pronouns, sexual and romantic preferences and sexual orientation with expectations clearly disseminated with regards to transphobia.
