WIN A £1,000
INVESTMENT
FOR YOUR COMMUNITY GROUP
There is POWER
in COMMUNITY
In 2025 the QSAs will be giving one student community group the power to make impactful and positive change for more young LGBTQ+ people in their school, college or university or local community with a £1,000 investment into a project of their choice.
WHAT WILL YOU CHANGE?
-
Entries are open to all community-focused LGBTQ+ clubs and societies where the word ‘community’ is defined as ‘a group of people with diverse characteristics who share or have certain attitudes and interests in common’. This includes school Pride groups, student societies on university campuses and local community support groups.
-
Entries will open on Wednesday 5th February (National Queer Students Day) and close at the same time as all other QSA2025 categories, Tuesday 25th March.
-
Student community groups entering the competition will be asked to provide an overview of how they will use the £1,000 investment to launch a community change project which benefits young LGBTQ+ people and/or aims to raise awareness of an issue affecting them. The investment could also be used to enhance something already in place.
Students will need to provide answers to the following questions:
What do you want to change, and why?
How do you plan to create positive change using your solution to the issue you have identified?
How will you monitor whether you have been successful?
What additional support will you need?
-
Once the shortlist is announced, the finalists will be provided with feedback from the judges and given time to build upon their ideas.
Finalists will then pitch their fully formed change projects to a selection of the judges on the afternoon of the QSA2025 final.
The winning community group will then be announced during the awards ceremony that evening.
“In previous years we have awarded the Community Group of the Year award to the school/college Pride group or university society that has impressed the judges with the work they have done in the previous 12 months, however, as we’re celebrating the fifth anniversary of the QSAs in 2025 I wanted to do something different with this category.
Over the last four years, we have recognised the teamwork that has already successfully supported fellow students and the wider LGBTQ+ community, some of which could have been limited in its scope and impact by access to funding and resources. The QSAs plan to help change that by rebranding this category as the ‘The Power In Community’ competition where community groups will now have the opportunity to win an investment of £1,000 into a community change project.
The amazing work already being done by student community groups across the UK will continue to be celebrated in our Community Initiative of the Year category.”
